| My initial impression is that it is S. guaranitica Black & Blue. Check to see if the stem develops pigmentation. |

Looks like Firespike (Odontonema strictum) or possibly a Turtlehead (Chelone spp.) Would be obvious when in flower. Art |

| With the help of other forum members I believe I have solved this mystery. We believe it is cuphea shumannii[orange cuphea] . I did take cuttings of this plant along with the goldflame cuttings and evidently the cuttings got mixed up. |

Hummersteve: Good to hear you have figured out what it is.Is Cuphea shumannii cold hardy for you? That is another genus I need to explore more than I have. Thanks Art |

| You will have company. One of the movers and shakers in the hummer community is also expanding her interest in Cupheas - Casa Colibri in Metarie, LA (Nancy Newfield). I'd do some myself, but I have no land of my own for planting beds, and am very limited for greenhouses, cold frames, and container plants. |

I have about a dozen give or take of C. Schumannii that I started from seed. Some in pots and some in ground. Penny |

| Hi Art No the cuphea shumannii is not hardy for me . I have to take cuttings to winter over. Yes it is a hot favorite of hummers around here. I should of recognized the plant myself. |
