Winter-flowering species could be used in a conservatory, but even then, you would have to collect fallen flowers each day.

It is hard to do, unless you have a cool, sunny window or a sun room. The Eurasian ones are pointless to grow that way, since they are generally winter dormant. Many of the subtropical ones get too big.

However, I have had good luck with Salvia greggii San Isidro Moon and similar sages (I have not tried S. buchananii). Many people take small pineapple sages in,

Grow lights are good for wintering over precious sages, but 16 hour lighting generally precludes blooming. I am going to try keeping small S. lineata and S. stolonifera plants this way, as well as S. pachyphylla (if I still have them after this summer)

Salvia chiapensis blooms indoors for me although it prefers the above freezing porch to the warmer livingroom. It needs a lot of water.

I am going to try some S.Vanhouttei and miniata this winter.

Perhaps my porch is a little too cold for miniata, because once the mother plant is brought in it quits blooming within about a month. Greggii and microphylla will bloom. The ones brought in for propagation pretty much always do especially as the days get longer in February.
