Hi all,

I am currently in turkey and have shot some images of 2 species of salvia in the wild.

See http://www.flickr.com/photos/coraylinsgarden/sets/72157621969587816/

Images were taken near Lapseki
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lapseki,+Lapseki,+Turkije&sll=51.511978,3.685729&sspn=0.008774,0.032938&ie=UTF8&ll=40.505446,27.748718&spn=1.372014,4.216003&z=9

Salvia A is very common, I am now in Istanbul and it grows everywhere near the railroad for instance. Salvia B was common at the location where Ý have shot the images.

Anybody that can help identification is welcomed,

kind regards

Cor

It's difficult to identify Turkish's salvia, because it has just few Turkish Salvia in Occidental collections like Salvia napifolia, Salvia heldreichiana...
For the first Salvia, It may be a pink form of Salvia staminea.

Can you access a copy of The Flora of Turkey, Volume 7 (ed. by P. H. Davis) Edinburgh at the University Press?

There are so many Turkish Salvias I hesitate to guess. Next to Mexico, Turkey has the highest number of Salvia species (86)

Hi

Salvia A could be Salvia virgata and

Salvia B could be Salvia verbenaca
(see http://www.thebegavalley.org.au/uploads/tx_steverplantgallery/Salvia_verbenaca_05_wild sage.jpg)

Anybody that has experience with these plants and that can confirm this is welcomed to respond to this message.

Both of these species are in the turkish list of sages.

regards

Additional images have been added from Salvia A but then in Istanbul. The flowers seem a bit different, notice the split lowerlip in the images.
