It definitely is microphylla or a hybrid withy greggii. I am leaning towards a straight microphylla like Hot Lips, though it does not have variably colored flowers like Hot Lips. S. greggii x microphylla Cherry Chief has a simialr leaf.
Where did you get it? Is it a chance seedling? Is it growing in sun or shade?
Sorry about the spelling. I got seeds in a trade that was labeled Salvia navajo rose. It has very nice almost black calyces with the red flower. I got a couple really nice white salvias from my hot lips seeds, also.
Interesting. I am the breeder that created Navajo Rose. The flowers should be huge for a greggii or microphylla, and pink, not red. The foliage should look more like a greggii leaf as well, with a smooth edge with really tiny notches. Hybrids rarely come true, especially if different related plants are blooming at the same time. Most of the volunteer microphylla seedlings are of less value than their parents.
On the other hand, the all white Hot Lips seedling is really interesting, since there are few all white microphyllas.
