Caradonna is disappointing

I have 5 Caradonna salvia plants in a row in my garden. I don't think they give much bang for the space they occupy in the garden. They crowd out other shorter plants and their flower spikes are not as showy as I thought they'd be. I deadhead them and only get a few more flowering spikes for the effort. They are kept moist, well-fertilized, and receive sufficient light to grow like weeds. Is there a better variety of perennial salvia which has lusher flowers and less invasive tendencies?
