| I am creating a full-sun low-water garden next to our patio and am considering transplanting an existing 'San Carlos Festival' to this area. In summer, this spot gets direct sun from morning to afternoon. I don't mind giving an additional drink during the hottest months, but I don't want plants in this spot that depend on weekly watering throughout the year.
How tolerant is SCF of hours of direct sun with occasional water in clay soil? I love this Salvia and would put one in every area of the yard if room allowed. |

| It's about as tough a S. microphylla that you will ever find. Hot Lips would come in as a close second. I would work in some drainage and humus into the clay soil, if your plot is not already developed garden soil. |

| Thank you, Rich. It certainly is one of my favorite Salvias we've ever grown. We also grow Hot Lips, and I agree with your comment on it too. |
