What Salvia is this

Can anyone help with the identification of what I think is a salvia. It is a woody shrub, about 1.2 metres tall, with arrow-head shaped sage-green leaves with serrated margins and rather pungent when crushed. Flower spikes are conical, about 5cm across base and 8 cm tall. Flowers are vivid, true blue, and the dead flower heads are horribly prickly. Any suggestions? Many thanks.
