I naturally have about 90% sand 5% loam. Drains very well. My list is about the same as your Hybidsage. But others that stand out are S. apiana, S. clevelandii, S. azurea, and S. chamaedryoides. Other carefree families that do well here at 4600 ft.leucophyllums (Texas ranger), Penstemons both low desert and Rocky Mtn types. And I have my property has Palo verde and Emory live oak. One group that should grow well here, but doesn't Agastache.

I have 3 different soils: Back hill is decomposed granite (DG) with a top layer of soil;
front hill -- brought-in river loam = very sandy;
natural flat ground -- adobe clay.

The CA natives seem do better in the DG; but the amount of sun is more of a factor for most Salvias here in Central CA.

I too have adobe clay, alas. It's amended, but probably not enough, because many of my salvias don't exactly flourish here, sigh. I've started putting rocks and such into planting holes....
