Die back

Limy

I have Salvia Greggii Caviar that has been in the ground for two years,it has taken temps of 112 routinely with no ill effects . This week the temps were around 103 and all of a sudden one side of the plant just died, then a couple of days later the other side died. the remainder of the plant is still alive at present but there are no shoots coming from base . This plant has been very vigorous for all this time and one of my best performers here in Redding Ca. Anyone have any Idea's ,or experienced such behavior ?.
