Black & Blues Anyone know of a good Nursery...

I desprately want some Black and Blues for next year. I course, I would have to go them as an annual, but I have never seen such a beautiful plant and I love hummers.

Can someone give me a very reputable nursery that I can order from (plant/not seed)? I would have to order them online. I need them big enough to bloom for that year too.

Thank you very much. Oh, is Lady in Red hardy in Zone 5 IL?

:-)

Hi, to answer your second question first, Lady in Red is not hardy. It does not survive freezing temperatures. But it is a heavy seed producer.

As for the black & blues, I got my original one at Lowe's, I think, or a local nursery. There is a "Rate & Review Vendors" forum that you could check before deciding who to order from. I believe a lot of places have them available online. Or you could go to the Plant Exchange forum and trade for some in the spring.

I think I got mine from Home Depot during the summer months.

I wonder if Lowe's in my zone here would sell the Black and Blues, since they would be considered annual.

Do the Lady in Reds come true to seed? I know the B&B's usually do not.

Thanks again :)

Lady in Red should come true from seed. I had them coming up everywhere this year. We have not had a freeze yet, and they are migrating into the grass. Lady in Red produces a lot of seed and it sprouts quickly.

I also have coral nymph, snow nymph and forest fire, and those coccineas do not seem to be as prolific as Lady in Red.

lovefornature--- Its not allowed for someone to promote their bussiness so I will Rich Defresnes ' world of salvias" is one place to get them and I personally bought black and blues from "meadow view growers " and recieved those plants in very good shape . They only deliver in groups of five plants and I will leave a link for them although I dont think they sell untill early spring. I have also got them from a local plant farm. But they are not easily gotten in my area. Lowes , etc. you can forget them in my area, but in your area may be ok.

Here is a link that might be useful: meadow view growers
