Hot Lips color change - temp or light?

Is it light or temperature that causes the flowers to change color? For the first part of the summer, my plant was in a VERY sunny location in my mother's garden (I believe this was also during the heat wave). The first flowers were completely red. I moved it to my house in a mostly sunny, but slightly shaded area and the blooms turned bicolored. Now, I moved the plant inside to overwinter. The blooms have turned completely white. The temperature inside in actually higher than the temp outside, but the light is definitely much lower. So, what causes the change?

Thanks,

Bellatrix
