Should I cut my black and blue to the ground?

I just received two black and blue Salvias that I ordered online. They are very young, and I planted them today. There are a couple of blooms and some leaves on each one, but they are on top of a couple of long stems. I want to cut it all the way to the ground so that it can grow more bushy, but should I let it get more established first?

I would let your plant get established. It needs to store sugars in the undergoung tubers for next years growth.
Mine would start blooming in Febuary, prune during the growing season so it recovers quickly. I am in alkaline
clay here and my plants always benefited from a fir mulch
(mulch from Christmas trees)for a nice dark green foliage.
If your plants keep falling over you may want to remove the
blooms and foliage at the node just below the bloom. So it
pushes out some roots to stablize itself.

I agree that you should wait a bit for the plant to get established before heavy pruning. When cooler weather arrives -- jan./Feb... then prune it.
