...and yet another 'Black and Blue' question

I am about to dig this up and be rid of it. I love the bloom color, but the caterpillars eat the blooms and foliage until it is so unsightly. They are some kind of generalist moth that absolutely will not leave this plant alone. I have cut it back and cut it back and still they return for the past 3 years.

I cannot use chemicals because I have a butterfly garden. The little bloom that does survive does not even attract the hummers anymore because they are so few and far between.

In a last gasp effort to salvage the salvia (LOL!). do you think that moving the Salvia to a different location might prove to be a cure? I would expect that there could occasionally be a pest problem during a certain period of time during the growing season, or during a particular year even, but this is constant and pervasive.

Has anyone else experienced problems with S. 'Black and Blue', or is this just a unique problem that can only be solved by removing the plant entirely?

Thanks for your input.

Susan
