Hello all,

I just acquired several sansevierias, (I believe they are all just the normal m-n-l tongue). The big dilemma I'm having is with a this one large pot that seems to have the most damage done to the plants. These plants all came from a recently deceased friend of the family so very little is known about their previous care.

What is know about this container, is that it was left outside and it got really really cold. The leaves are not mushy and soil is very dry. We are guessing that they haven't been watered in a long time since no one was going by to check on her plants when she was in the hospital. The parts of the leaves that are brown are mostly very brittle at the top, and then hardens as it gets to where the green is. There is some new growth on several of the plants. Although the pot is very large, it seems the right size for what it is it. They are not pot bound, but there isn't too much room to spare. I would really love to keep them in that pot, and hopefully that will fill it up the rest of the way (at which point I will probably divided and then leave most in that container).

My main question is, should I cut off the areas that are brown? Is there anything I can do to keep it from spreading down the leaf and killing the plant? Obviously having brown tips on the taller leaves makes the plant less attractive, but an empty container would look a whole lot worse. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
