Can Moon Shine be Planted in The Ground ?

I have a moon shine Q. I want to plant some in the ground & was wondering if that would be ok since Ive never done it before? I live in zone 9 in Calif. ?

Purpleinopp has planted various Sans in the ground, including 'Moonshine' with success. She's in zone 8. As long as it's not too much sun or doesn't get too cold, I doubt you'd have an issue.

Understand you still will have to pot up come winter. One night at 40 and you can start all over. Best to pot back up and be safe. I think zone 10 is fine but you are pushing zones. This is where Norma and Solar_storm is needed. They live is simular areas.

Stush & Planto, Hey I appreciatine the response so quickly so I jumped on it also, Stush, the only thing I didnt like was the part about removing at @ 40ÃÂ° I actually had this little guy outside in a pot all last winter, is it dif. in the ground opposed to being potted up?

In any case shes in the ground now and I hope she'll enjoy the earth this Spring & get established really good before winter and insist in to stay there, my fingers will be crossed X

Sorry, I didn't know it already survived your winter. It will always be better in the ground than in the pot. If a cold snap comes on, just cover it.

Stush, thanks I didnt know that Im hoping it tales off then I can pot up some more Moon Shine here at my Hacienda.

Greg, that looks like a great little microclimate, even if it would be too cold there in a more exposed spot (which IDK one way or the other.) The cement and bricks absorb heat and hold it, a great way to push/cheat zones anywhere (within reason,) though you may still get some frost bite on the tips (if there's frost.)

Glad I didn't choose this winter to try leaving any in the ground (and folks were gracious enough to offer homes to the excess plants) here this year. Light frost is one thing, an ice storm and temps in the teens are way beyond that! I need to build some handy-dandy brick planters...

Hope you'll remember to offer an update next spring, if not sooner!

We are moving (about 1/2 mile, but no beds to plant in yet) so I've put Sans in the ground in Mom's yard for now. Even if/when temporary, it's so cool to watch what they do!
