Robert they will root when ready, they need warmth. In the summer months it took about 2 weeks. In cold weather it takes much longer, it also depends where on the leaf it was taken. I would not use more than two inches of soil. and a very small narrow pot, fast drainage so not to rot, no peat moss, but a sandy gritty mix, sand with pumice/or perlite. I don't use any hormones on the cut, I let it dry out before putting in the mix. The fat thick leaves will take longer. I like to use the leaf sheath. If you have questions please email me.
