I am going to try and figure out how to help you plant without knowing what kind of mix you are using, first you check the soil, give it new clean soil, and container, then put it into damp mix only. The plant can go six months without water, the damp soil should keep it going for at least several weeks. Plant it into the smallest pot it will fit into. Take cutting of what ever is left of the green leaves, and plant them into a pot with only 2 inches of soil, don't water until you see new growth, the pot should only be a rose pot or a three inch container.
It should be kept warm and in bright shade or in the house with indirect light. Save the rhizomes, put them in shallow mix and water only once a week, or they will rot. I have started many this way.
I don't know what species you have, does it have thick leaves, or flat thin ones. This will make a difference on how you can save your plant. You may have overwatered it is safer not to water if in doubt. Keep me in touch of what is happening with this plant, they are slow to restart and make take months until you see new growth.
