bird's nest sans -- repotting questions?

I haven't had any experience growing sans -- mostly I know about jade plants. But I recently traded a baby jade for a baby birds-nest sans, from a friend who recently divided hers and now has more plants than she can handle.

I'd like to repot this plant in a better-draining soil, since it appears to be in an extremely peaty soil right now. I was thinking I'd use the same blend I am using right now for my jades (roughly 50/50 perlite and commercial C/S soil), since I am used to working with it. But before I put the sans in its new home, I would like to know what size pot I should put it in -- do they like a cramped abode, like a jade, or do they prefer to spread out a bit?

This is a tiny little baby rosette of a plant right now, but I really love how shiny and deep-green its leaves are, and I want to help it reach its full potential -- the mother plant is quite lovely. Right now it is in a 6" pot and it looks very small and lonely in there!

Hi there,

I'll just throw in my two cents worth of advice.

Your cactus soil and perlite will be just fine for your new sans. Just drop down to a three or four inch pot.

I repotted it -- in the nick of time! The root system was vainly trying to penetrate about 2" of densely compacted clay-ey mud, the bottom sides of the pot had the beginnings of fungus, and I found a freaking EARTHWORM in that mess. (I let him go into the backyard, so he can aerate the soil there -- maybe he saved the sans!) These plants must have the most cast-iron constitution ever, to be able to propagate in that. I gave the whole plant a really careful rinse and once-over, and miraculously there was only one tiny piece of root that needed to be trimmed off (looked like it had died from sitting in perched water). No signs of mold or creepy-crawlies.

Here's a pic of the sans in her new lodgings -- the blue glass things are just there to keep the perlite from blowing out of the pot if I turn the fan on :)
