Your plant is not getting enough light. Sitting next to a glass door, it is growing in an abnormal way towards the outdoor light and the longest leaves are unable to remain erect - bending under the strain. Your plant needs even light and lots of it, quickly. You might have prevented, or at least limited this condition, by turning your plant every few weeks. I'm not sure if you will be able to condition your plant back to its former vertical glory; some leaves might remain curved to some degree.

Suggestions were that it was in too small of a pot, that they were too long, (6 feet is apparantly abnormal) or not enough light. Last night I unpotted it and it seemed to be ok in the pot it was in but I went ahead and split it anyways. I seperated it into 2 18 inch pots but only filled it to be appx 12 inches that way I didnt shock it too much. I also tried to stake the bent branches and tied all of the branches up and it looked pretty silly. I contacted the Missouri Bontanical Gardens and they said that in thier opinion if the roots looked good, the only thing they could think of is that it needed to be outside in some indirect light for a little while and if that didnt work to just cut off the spliting branches as the plant couldnt hold the weight any longer.

Although you didn't say, I assumed your plant was a common trifasciata and all green. Six feet is tall for this plant, but not uncommon - especially one that is 30 years old and has been somewhat deprived of good light.
Your split leaves will never recover. If both bent and split, I would suggest surgery for cosmetic reasons. Your plants will recover nicely if you can give them better light.
