thanks for this valuable tip! I am going to try it.

Questions:

when you cut the leaf into pieces, do you cut it length-wise making sure a bit of the bottom is on each cut section, or do you cut it across?

When you say you 'set the cutting all the way down to the bottom', do you mean you fill the 3" pot with soil, and bury the cutting all the way in with some sticking out of the soil?

Do you do an initial light watering at all?

I do it pretty much the same way. I place about 1/2 of the leaf above soil level, but use cuttings about 4" long. I also usually don't put mine in dirt for at least 24 hours. I make the cuttings and leave them laying out on a clean clear sunny surface (window sill) for a day or two.

Do not water initially, at all! The cuttings don't need the water, but they do need to callous over before they get watered.

How to make the cuts -- are they vertical length-wise cuts, or horizontal across the leaf?

Horizontal, being certain to remember &/or mark which side is 'down' into the mix, otherwise (if planted upside down they will not root).

I hear one can also make vertical cuts (but I myself have only started to do that & only did it on a fairly wide leaf). I believe the much more common technique is horizontal cuts.
