sanseveria in water

I was at the hardware store and saw a sanseveria that was laying in a pot of water because the pot was missing. I asked about it and they said I could have it for free. There are "two" plants linked together by one stem like thing. One of the plants has two new shoots coming out of the root area that look like they will become more plants. The sans had been in the water for about 2 months and look like they are thriving. When I plant them in dirt should I bairy the new shoots because they are at root level or should I put the plant in water? I would prefer dirt though.

Thank's for the help!
