You can trim the root if you need to. Make sure to let the cut heal before planting! S pinguicula is the "walking sanseveria", so don't forget that you don't have to bury the roots all the way up to the base of the foliage. This plant looks kind of neat rising above the soil like a spider.

Just don't cut of when they are to small because you will loose many.
I speak of own experience, when I lost from about 10 young plants the biggest part.

So just leave them connected as long as possible once the are nicely grown on there own roots you can separate but just don't trim them to much, other sansevierias you can just trim but with this is a little more tricky.

I would trim it off and let it sit awhile. Just sit it on top of the soil until you see some roots, then push down on the head gently but not to bury it into the soil mix. Let the new offset get at least four leaves before removing it from the stem.
