For me here in central Fla, my Sans are much lighter colored in full afternoon sun for any length of time. They
will badly sunburn if not slowly acclimated to full sun. Bright light short of full sun brings the most intense colors, a location with full early morning sun and afternoon shade is OK too. I think variegates on average need more light than all green plants to look well. The colors on S. kirkii v. pulchra are definitely brought out by
very bright light, the beige mottling will turn pinkish.

I've never been able to figure out if variegates need more light or not. But, in general, with all plants, not just sansevierias, cooler conditions bring out better variegation. So, it stands to reason that a location with some coolness will improve the coloring. I have never noticed this with sansevierias per se though.

With agaves, which for a while, were thought to be closely related, I did find that hot bright sun turned the variegation green and faded the non-variegated portions of the leaves. So, I grow agave variegates with some shade to bring out the colors and contrasts. Morning sun would be better than hotter afternoon sun too.
