It's my understanding that these porous, fired clay balls come under various names. The hydro grower from whom I bought my 1st Hydro growing Hoya calls them Leca stones, I think they're the same thing.

I think regular stones may have the same effect? I have used a watered down peroxide (3% solution is what most stores sells). It did the trick on a rotten crown on a Sans. Tri~ Hanhii I had. I read about this trick on the internet when I 'Google' it.

Yeah, the technically correct name for the beady things is Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate, or LECA for short. Hydroton is the most commonly available brand, though there are a couple others available.

I've had good results with using a tablespoon or two of 3% peroxide in a quart of water when watering plants in badly compacted soil, and some Adenium growers swear by it as a boost for seedlings. (My own results with peroxide and Adenium seedlings have been ambiguous, so I'm not sure how much it really helps.) I wouldn't use it with LECA, though -- part of the point of LECA is that the roots can pull oxygen straight from the air, so peroxide wouldn't be of help.

I doubt regular stones have the same effect, they're not porous, so they can't help in a wicking sense, which is How I think this works.

Thanks all, I keep learing that everything I have been doing is mostly wrong. When I repot I will keep this in mind.
