Sansevieria ?s on Up-Potting and Container Depth (Newbie)

Hi,

About a month or so back, divided a crowded snake plant into a fast-draining mix for the first time. Doing well there, and even has a rather assertive, tall quickly growing pup (pic below). Probably a common Sansevieria variety - original was a gift from a bank back in the day - and has been divided/repotted since.

Thinking of up-potting next-time, for the first time. From what I've read online (and seen at least in regular mixes) these are shallow rooting plants. But how deep can and do they go?

Are there any guidelines? Beyond what depth, or maybe depth to width ratio, would container space just be wasted?

Would the roots only ever use, say, the top 6" no matter how wide the container? Or maybe just use depth up to 50% of the width of the pot? Or perhaps the roots' extension depends how full and crowded the plant(s) get in the container?

Thanks for any advice.

PS Since I'm visiting the Sans forum...Any tips for dusting these leaves. They've always seemed to be efficient collectors.
