Silly question about pups

Okay, so bear with me. This is probably going to sound like a stupid question but I couldn't find an answer anywhere.

Do pups only come from the original mother plant? If I had a mother plant with pups that were full grown, but still connected to the mother plant - would those full grown pups (no idea what they are called when they are full grown) make their own pups or would the pups still only come from the mother plant?

I made a crude picture because I don't think I'm explaining myself correctly. The red dot is the mother plant. :)

Hi,
Yes you are right with your drawing on the right. The pups will grow up and have pups of their own. Sans seem to benefit from growing in colonies like this, versus being separated the into separate plants.
Not a silly question.

Agreed, and excellent drawing! The next time I dig some up from the ground, I'll take pics of what they do without the constriction of a pot. If you've grown Cannas, that should give you a good idea. So similar.
