help choosing a small tree for patio

Would like to plant a small tree in a patio area- patio is approx. 14x23, would like something for a little shade, but nothing that matures to giant proportion. thought about smaller variety crape myrtle, but would love something a little more uncommon for this area (Carteret County) and something a little shady but maybe even columnar, not sure.

anyone with experience with this please share your advice!

Is the area in full sun? Is the soil wet or dry?

Area gets good amount of sun, still thinking Natchez crape myrtle- I collect elephant ear varieties and the leaves will turn to paper without some bit of shade, any suggestions would help.

thanks!
