Horseradish

Has anyone tried growing horseradish in this area.
I have a few plants that struggle back each year for about four years now - are they any good or do I have to start new ones each year?

They probably need a lot of peat moss and afternoon shade. It seems to grow better farther north.

I have grown it on the Coast a few years back but as they say it doesn't do as well as in the North where it can become a weed. I have even started it from a root in the Grocery store which was all scribbled up and had to soak in water to re-constitute it before planting. No about every second year you need to have used up most of the root and put the pieces back in for new plants. Yes down here it shouldn't be grown in full sun. It can become woody and not so tasty after too many years in the ground without being used. Up north I have even run it over with a rota-tiller and ended up with it all over the place.
