I have 6 crepe myrtles and was wonder if I trim the top branches all relatively the same heigth, will I still get blossoms on top? I trimmed them down in mid February 2005 and its May already and they are getting pretty big. I am in St Petersburg Florida and any advice is appreciated.

Thanks - Tim

Also - if your a female between the ages of 35 and 45 and single in the St Pete area drop me line.

Pick up a gallon of 1% milk and a loaf of whole wheat bread, ok?

(Seems as irrelevant as the original post)

Crapes bloom on new wood, so you haven't committed "Crape Murder"

RE: Crape Myrtles

I think, if he pruned all of the tops off in February (hat-racked them), he HAS committed crape murder. That is exactly what crape murder refers to - the naive chopping off of all branch tops because you see everyone else doing it. It weakens the plant and shortens its life.

Crape myrtles only require minor pruning: remove the suckers, any crossed, broken or diseased branches and you are done!
