Shade in summer

Posted by craiglee Florida (My Page) on

I am working to help a private school develop a work study program for the students. We are growing a salad mix (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and onions).

My question is: can we add shade to extend the growing in the summer? we have no problem growing in the spring, fall and winter, but the summer stresses all the plants.

Will shade allow us to grow in June, July and august? or will heat and length of day be a problem regardless?

Additionally, what is an acceptable shade for this?

RE: Shade in summer

Since this is an immediate need, are you referring to shade cloth? Is this like shade/grown tobacco?

Is the garden getting regular rainfall?
