Crazy for palms

I live in coastal NC on Topsail Island where everyone seems to have gone crazy for palm trees lately. Palm trees are not indigenous to this area and for that reason I have not jumped on the bandwagon, as I think local flora brings out the natural beauty of the area.
BUT...
I secretly like the palm trees.
I kinda want a couple.
I'd like some thoughts on the issue. Should I stick with what grows here naturally and dismiss the palm trees as a passing fad? Or should I give in to my desire, go for it and buy a couple? |

| By all means buy them, but buy the right varieties. In your area, i would go with trachycarpus fortuneii, as well as sabal palmetto. You might also try butia capitata. Enjoy! |
