Hi there!
We are moving to Savannah from California and I was wondering if my beloved roses or tomatoes will grow there by any chance?
Thank you for your help, this site is wonderful.

Grow indeed. Depending on where you "land" in Chatham county, your growing season will be between 240-270 days. You may have to do without some rose cultivars as they do not do well in our humid subtropical climate, but many, many do. Let me be the first to welcome you to Savannah. I have no doubt you will like its charm and beaches ( and get used to being able to actually swim in the water ...our water temp is a balmy 82 right now, and won't drop below the mid 70's again until mid to late October at the earliest. As a builder/real estate investor, if you have any questions about the area, feel free to email me and ask.

the main problem with roses and tomatoes in Savannah will be the root nematodes. In some areas, it's not a big problem....in others? well, One or two seasons will be all you get. One solution if you find your soil is infected is to grow them in containers or replace the soil in your beds. Roses with root stock of native Florida roses seem to be more resistant. And some varieties of tomatoes are resistant.
Welcome to the area and Good Gardening.

Well said. Nematodes are a BIG problem in the older, more established areas ( basically anyplace that has had anything under human cultivation). Keeping a good mulch will keep most of the nematode problems away.

Thank you all for your advice!
We will be living in the Landings. Our parents live there so we have been visiting for many years and have fallen in love with Savannah!
I am sure I will have many questions regarding gardening to come!

Take advantage of the moderate climate of Skidaway....no doubt you'll like it, and what all you will be able to grow.
