Has anyone seen a lizard like this one lurking in your yard. I have lots of plants and have seen a lot of lizards but this one was very strange. It saw itself in a mirror and got very aggressive blew itself up to look larger and had its mouth open as if it was attacking its image in the mirror

I replied on the GA forum as well...its an anole, but I don't think it is the native. It has a different head than our natives and seems to be a bit more robust through the body area. Looks like an escaped pet.

It is "anolis sagrei" the cuban brown anole, which along with the common house gecko, "hemidactylus turcicus" are the only two lizard species to have naturalized in Georgia...the house geck has naturalized all over the Sunbelt, from California to Virgina Beach.

Hi. I'd have to disagree about the Cuban Anole. We have literally hundreds per acre down here and their head and face is more blunt than your photo. But it is some kind of anole, I'm sure. Paul.

If it isn't the above species, then we need to identify it as biologists would like/need to know of its existence...it looked like the "textbook" pic of them to me, but I haven't viewed them in person.

RE: strange lizard

I think the Brown (Cuban, Bahamanian) Anole is pretty variable in its looks. Some populations look different than others, just like many plants. I believe it is a Brown anole.
