light shade tree

What's a good tree that will be relatively fast growing, pretty, not real tall and will give mottled shade to sun-fried flower beds? We want the flowers to receive enough sunlight to bloom normally but not burn from the sun as they are doing now. This is for Lake Charles area.

Tall leggy crepe myrtles planted about 10' apart. Trim all branches except the top. Trees should grow to 15' or more. This will allow early morning sun and afternoon sun to hit plants and during the heat of the day will provide lightly broken sunlight.
