 o
White Lily ID, please

Can anyone tell me the name of the white lily that would be blooming now...late July...in Lowcountry SC (Hwy 17 in Walterboro)? At 60 MPH, it appears to be a single stalk, 2-3 feet tall, growing under a shade tree, one flower atop each stalk (that last observation is the iffiest). It's stunning and I WANT IT! Thanks for ideas!

I saw some Peruvian Daffodils,(I think they are Hymenocallis narcissiflora), up that way last Friday. There were also lots of milk & wine crinums blooming in yards along 17.

The crinums are all so beautiful about this time of year! I love them~

Nope! Neither Crinium nor Peruvian Daffodil...it appears exactly as an Oriental Lily, but I didn't think they grew around here or this late. And a correction... I saw them in Jacksonboro. Thanks for the suggestions, tho. Maybe they are just Oriental Lilies?

How about the old passalong Formosa or Philippine lilies? They are blooming now but are usually about 5' tall. Also, the Oriental Casablanca does well here.
Now I am curious (nosy), I'll have to find a reason to head up to the big city so I can look at flowers along the way.

I think you got it, Datawgal! It does look exactly like the pics of the Formosa lily. Does anyone know where I could find them to buy? Thanks

One of the ladies from the garden club was remarking that those lilies reseeded "all over the place" I could not see anything wrong with that so am anxiously awaiting the seed. Does anybody know if they grow that tall from seed?

They sure do and often bloom the first year.

I planted two formosa lilys purchased from Park Seed in May at the back of a border expecting them to bloom at 4-6'. Hmmm....they are in bud but not exactly towering over the border at an amazing height of 1 foot! Is this just a first year issue? I've watered and fed and they get a few hours of sun every day.

Maybe the roadside ones are suffering the same syndrome whatever it is!

Come to think of it, I too had one Formosa that bloomed at about 1'. It later sent up more stems to 4'. I believe these plants do get taller as they mature; mine are only two years old.
Their seed pods are almost as interesting as the flowers and they are wonderful in dried arrangements.
