Seashell etc. hunting tips???????

I've always just scoured the beach for seashells when I was there anyway..... as I"ve done since I was a child...... but I"ve since heard that there are good and bad times to find seashells...... etc. ........ are there any rules????? well not rules but tips??????? When can you find the best/most seashells and in what places....... I"ve heard one source actually suggest looking in winter....... any info??????

sanibel island is supposedly one of the best shelling places in this hemisphere
after storms, makes good shelling all over the florida coastline

Think like all the places you might find slugs. Like near trees...

One time my son went on a walk and found lots of conch shells near the tree debris at the beach~

Good luck with this...I have lots of shells surrounding my gardens. They are uniquely charming!
