Very few landscapers are aware of them. Even folks familiar with palms don't neccessarily know what a mule is. Also the fact that they're expensive and commercial projects run on budgets.

I know there's one close to me in Carolina Beach, (south of Wilmington) and the homeowner got it from a local nursery.
I think once word gets out by magazines like Southern Living and Carolina Gardening, and Cooperative Extensions talking about these palms they'll get used more. I know that people come in the garden center where I work with Southern Livings in hand, wanting the plants talked about in the magazine.
Even with the higher price tag, they're such great palms I'm sure people will use them.
I have a pindo and two queens. I wonder how you hybridize them...... Hhhhmm.....

I personally don't find mules all that beautiful, so it is also a matter of subjectivity. Mules also can vary considerably based on whether the pindo or the queen is the "mother" (pollen from the other put on this mother flower's stigmas).

In colder areas, I find pindo quite pretty, and palms that burn in marginally hardy areas and turn mostly brown by March aren't my idea of a quality, "pretty" palm to be planting.
