Errosion of creek banks

I need help saving the large trees on the banks of an active creek which borders by property! The errosion is washing away the ground and causing some smaller trees to fall. What can I do to save the trees that are still in place and to help further errosion when the creek gets high?

RE: Errosion of creek banks

I understand your desire to save trees but it is the nature of a creek to move. As water cuts into the outside edge of its curves and undercuts trees, the same water deposits sand and soil on the inside of the curves, providing a great place for willows and birches to sprout. These changes help maintain the diversity of the woodland, providing habitat for a wide diversity of wildlife. It is better for the environment if you do not control the creek's meandering.
