Have friends that just relocated to the coast of GA and would like to give them a gardening book that covers plants that do well in that area(Zone 8). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

"The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists" I think is pretty good reference material but not as a 'stand alone' (doesn't go into individual species much at all)
The Southern Living Garden Book has been very helpful to us. It lists plants by zones of Upper south, Mid South, Lower costal south, and Tropical. It lists more than 5,000 Southern Plants and their care requiements. Can be ordered from Amazon.com for around $30.
Click on the 'browse for books' button on the Pineapple Press homepage. You'll find a gerdening section. They also carry other interesting books pertaining to this region.
O.K. from my viewpoint the bible for general knowledge of southern plants is THE SOUTHERN LIVING GARDEN BOOK. But, for an all around great book for coastal southerners it's got to be GARDEN PERENNIALS FOR THE COASTAL SOUTH by Barbara J. Sullivan. She branches out beyond perrenials to annuals, shrubs and bulbs as well. Great book. Finally, bulbs which are so mysterious in our nonchilling climate are covered most deftly by Scott Ogden in his book GARDEN BULBS FOR THE SOUTH. I managed to get Mr. Ogden's book on sale and it was worth every penny. If I had no other books for gardening in our area, I would want those three. Laurie
