Is it A Sign??

There are tons of acorns in the yards and streets. The pines are releasing seeds like you never saw before.....Is this a sign that we are going to have a cold winter? My grandmother said that a heavy crop of acorns was a sure sign. I never paid much attention to her, but now I wonder if there was some old wisdom behind what she thought.

I was checking the Farmers Almanac the other day, (maybe I will buy one) and it says that the lower eastern coast will have a colder than normal winter with an above average rainfall. I'm happy about the rain, but I hope they are wrong about the cold.

We'll see, won't we!!!!

my understanding is that the year after hard weather, trees seed like mad
(stresses on a plant will sometimes trigger a survival-of-the-species-mode....ala, hard root-prunes on non-blooming wisteria usually get it to flower, etc)
I've noticed that the years following hurricanes/tropical storms make pines here seed extra heavy

the squirrels here, are usually pretty ratty-looking, tails are usually fur-sparse
this year
I've noticed their fur and especially their tails are very thick and healthy looking
(they almost look good)
raccoons look very good this year too

I go with misago...however the old F.A does say they we are going to have a cold wet winter, whilst the modern meterologists say be prpared for lows in S. GA to hit the lowers 20's ( maybe teens in some areas). They say it's be a cold one, on average, too. Anybody know where to buy some "remay" or frost cloth? Nobody in Savannah sems to know what the hell I am asking for.
