potted anthuriums over winter

| I have some pots of anthuriums on the porch, which are probably not going to live through the winter. Is there any chance to keep them alive in the ground, mulched, here in Savannah, or are they too tender? Maybe just close my eyes and toss, lol? I have absolutely no window that will give enough light for anything in this house.

| Looks as if we might not have winter.....right? We probablly won't have "winter" like you expect. what a lot of people do with that type of plant is when we are expecting the temperature to drop below freezing, or to have a heavy frost, is just move the pots close to the house as possible. Then put a couple of chairs around them and drape a bedspread over the whole thing. Later the next day, it will most likely warm up and you can remove the cover and let them get light. Sometimes we have brought ours indoors and set them around on the floor, the washing machine, wherever we can, and then in a day or two, it's OK to put them back out. We just don't have long extended freezing temps. (well, maybe once in a great while. It's worth risking it) I know that's a big bother, but it's better than just tossing them. Remember that out where you are is going to be warmer than what the "official" expected temp is. I usually figure 2-4 degrees. If there is no wind, those few degrees mean all the difference in the world. PB |

| Thank you PB! I have tried to bring in whatever I can that may not be able to withstand the cold temps. Since my school schedule is crazy, I'm not reliably home to uncover plants during the day, so it's best to bring in what I can and take my chances with some of the rest of it. girlsaylor |
