PawPaw, cherimoya... In New Orleans?

Hi.
I own a very shady yard in New Orleans. I thought I would plant Asimina Triloba there, but I was told I should get a local plant or it won't grow. Most of the named varieties are from north of here. I think that LSU and USL and some of the other colleges have been experimenting with this tree, but I don't know how to get their Asiminas (I have tried on the Web. Hopeless so far.) Anyone know the best way to get a good Pawpaw for this hot part of the world? Oh, and I have two seedling Cherimoyas I'm going to try and grow in containers (zipping them inside when it gets nippy). Has anyone else done this? |

| I have a paw paw tree that I got from Bantings. It does not look like it is doing too well. I've had it for 1 1/2 to 2 years. Also, you are supposed to have 2 so they can cross pollinate. (My other one was a mail order one and it died). |

drasaid, can't help with Paw-paws or cherimoya, but if you want to grow nun's orchids, I hear they do well in the shade. saw a house in Covington with them in the front yard and they look like they propagate well enough. Nice dark green shiny leaves and have stalks with orchids on them that resemble a hooded nun in white. good luck,Clary |
