Coastal plant ID, please!

Posted by girlgroupgirl 8 Atlanta (My Page) on

A friend of mine was in the Savannah area over Thanksgiving. She brought back a sample of a shrubby plant which seems to grow in wet sand. The plant has a greyish, elongated but round end leaf. Woody pale brown stems and she said it was covered in small yellow flowers with a daisy type shape.

I recognize this plant in my memory, but not by name.

Can you please name it so we can look it up?

Thanks so much,
Girlgroupgirl

Did she get it in the wet sand near a marsh or other water front? We have a lot of something like your description. I don't know any name for it except Marsh Daisy. I think it likes the salt or brackish areas.

Yes, it would have been in salty sand. I looked up Marsh Daisy on google and didn't really find anything (except chickens???!). I looked up beach daisies but those seemed to have white petals with a yellow center. The plant my friend saw had solid yellow flowers.

THANKS!

Then, I am guessing that we are talking about the same thing. I'll keep thinking. I have never seen it grow more than a few feet from a salty marsh/causeway/whatever.

I think you're talking about Sea Oxe Eye - Borrichia frutescens.
