| Does anyone have experience growing Jubaea Chilensis (Chilean Wine Palm) in the coastal georgia area?
I've read mixed reports of how well they do in this area. Would I be wasting my time trying to grow these from seeds?

| I'd try a jubae x butia cross instead...I understand that jubaea chilesnis doesn't and will not like our high heat and humidity. But, with seeds, its worth a shot! |

I think there are a couple in Solomon Park (Ardsley Park) Savannah. When I googled for an image it sure looked the same. Give it a try, you've nothing to lose. |

| I think I will try just to see what happens. I need to check out Solomon Park to see what's there. |

| Really? Where is Solomon in Ardsley? I'd like to have a gander. |

| I've had 12 jubaeas so far, all about knee high. I have 4 remaining that haven't died. 3 of those look like absolute crap, with one still looking 'kinda okay'. No, they do not do good in our climate. I grow several of the jubaea x syagrus, and jubaea x butia that do great. I definitely wasted my money on the plain jubaeas, though. |

| What zone is Savannah in? I think we all have different zones listed. |

| Superman: The 1990 USDA map has us all as zone 8b. The 2003 updated map ( which is being revised, BTW) had all of Chatham county as well as Bryan and Effingham in Zone 9. The arborday.org map has all 3 counties in zone 9 as well. The word is that the 2003 map is being revised to not be so liberal with the northern zone creep. The new USDA will probably be "in between" the old 1990 and the initial proposed 2003. IMHO, Chatham County is in 2 zones: west of 1-95 is zone 8b. East of the ICW is 9A, and the 10 miles in between are "transitional" between 8b and 9A, with the exception of the downtown Savannah area which is 9A becasue of the heat island effect. |

| I'm still not sure where solomon park is. I drove down 50th street and there were several parks on round-abouts that weren't named. If one of these parks was solomon, I didn't find Jubaea. There were several old butia with clean trunks though. Andrew |
