Hollyhock seed - Ready or not yet?

Sorry the photo is a little dark. Are the seeds supposed to come off of the center on their own, or do you pick them off. These I had to pull off and I wasn't sure. I was thinking some I had planted in the past had a strip of black along them, these don't, more brown.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Grey or brown, tan and it is ready. Green or yellowish not quite.

When thet are really done they will fall off that centre circle they are attached to. Mine are dark grey. Joelle

I've found that when the husk that enfolds the seeds begins to turn brown and papery, the seeds can be harvested. If the seeds are not yet dry, make sure you dry them before storage. Any time the seeds have begun to separate on their own you can be sure they are ripe.
