I think this chart is invaluable: http://www.hillgardens.com/seed_longevity.htm

Thanks! I've been looking for something like that for a long time. I disagree with some entries, though. I have two-year-old salvias that haven't shown any sign of deterioration, and same with sweet williams. On the other hand, my experience with one and two year old cyclamen seeds showed a steady decline (78% and 33% germination, respectively), so 4-5 years sounds like they're pushing it.

I have an unopened packet of corn seeds that's 4 years old. I was debating whether to plant them or not. According to your chart it sounds like a good bet. I think I'll try them. Thanks.

Great! I saved it to my "Favorites". Now I can clean out my seed box and get rid of those oldies that I probably wouldn't plant anyway. I have been hedgeing my bets on some for years now!

Thank you, I can really use this! Also, if anyone is interested, here is another favorite of mine. It is a Seed Germination Database. Scan down the page for a list of plants and their germination rates, seed starting tips, etc. (link below)

Here is a link that might be useful: Seed Germination Database
