Saving Crook Neck Squash Seeds

Last year I purchased heirloom crook neck squash and wanted to save the seeds. Here is what I did. I hand pollinated several of the squash and then marked them with a string so I would know where they were when I harvested them. I let them stay on the vine until they got very ripe and started to turn hard. Here is my problem, I opened the squash up and put the seeds on a cookie sheet to dry. The seeds dried fine but afterwards looked like they deflated. They were flat. Are these ok to use?
