I pick the pods when they are just opening - wait too long and all the seeds fall out. I don't pick until they open to be sure they are fully ripe. Just know they aren't sure to come true since they are hybrids. I've been really satisfied with my pink and purple that I've saved. The blue came up, but the color wasn't that nice - it had white spots.

Just curious...do wave petunia seed as prolificly as regular petunia varieties like cascade? I've been growing my own tired red and purple ones from seed (on the third or fourth generation now) from a parent plant that a friend of mine gave me as a gift. I'm ready to try some new ones!! Every now and then i get a suprise like hot pink or white with purple or red veining, but i want to get some of the wave petunias and was just wondering how well they re-seed.

I also pick the pods when they are just opening. I love saving wave petunia seeds. Never know what the babies will be like, but they are all gorgeous in their own way. By saving seeds I also have zillions of seeds/babies that I can give away! Last year I pulled that petunias out of the pots at the end of the season with a last shake of the plant and come spring I watered, covered the pots and kept in a warm place and sprouted my petunias right in the pots they will live in. Worked great, but did have to thin drastically (but had enough babies for the whole neighborhood to share). I will be doing that again this year. I did buy a few new wave colors and will keep the plant labels in the pot, just to see what colors come from the hybrids.

guessing you mean the pods after the flower has faded, right?
