Help with Dianthus and 4 oclocks

Posted by gardenluv 5 (My Page) on

Okay, I have a pot of Dianthus with lots of seed pods on it. How long do they take before the seed is ripe, and will they turn brown, or just open at the top?

Also, how can you tell when 4 oclock seeds are ready? I made the mistake of checking one, and it came out all green.

Thanks in advance to whomever can help me.

Dianthus seed pods will turn brown. Wait to harvest until the flower and stem are dry and dead and the pods will fall right off into your hand.

4 o'clock seeds "rattle" (move freely in the little cup that holds them) and have turned almost black when ready to harvest.

Enjoy. ;)
