Hi! I was hoping someone here could tell me if this is the seed part of Blue Oat Grass (Helictotrichon sempervirens)? The plumes of the grass are now dried out. When I run my hand over them these fall off, so I am guessing these are the seeds??? Or do I need to pry it open to get at the seed?
blue oat grass seed?
Thanks much for your help!

Those look like the seeds or at least what should contain seeds. See if they are hard, not all soft when you put pressure on them. That is what is important.

Thank you very much Remy! The whole thing is kind of soft, not hard. I have searched inside it for seed but can't seem to find any black/brown bit to it to. Might have to do some more research on these before I trade them! Thanks again...

You shouldn't find any black/brown bit. The seed should be the same color as the outside and sort of like rice shaped so pretty much what you have there in your photo. They might be a little moist still so they could smush with enough pressure, but they should not feel flat and soft like you could easily roll them into nothing. If they feel good but still a bit too soft, you can leave them on the plant a bit longer. If you feel they will fall off or get eaten by birds if you do that, you can bag the heads.
Take a look at the link below. They do not have Blue Oat Grass, but many other grasses and many with seed photos. You'll see what I mean.

Ah! I see now. Did not know that should be the color of the actual grass seed. Thanks for the link Remy, it was very helpful!
